Accessibility

A welcome book only works if every guest can read it. Guests do not choose the software their host uses, so the guest side of FreshLinen has to work with screen readers, keyboards, and whatever settings a guest already relies on. Our target is WCAG 2.1 AA for every guest-facing page.

What is in place today

• Every guest book theme is contrast-checked before it ships. Text on every theme, including the dark ones, meets or exceeds the AA contrast ratios, and a host's custom accent color falls back to the theme's own accent when it would be unreadable against the page.
• Books are plain, semantic HTML rendered on the server. Headings, lists, landmarks, and a skip-to-content link are there for screen readers and keyboard users, and every interactive control shows a visible focus ring.
• Hosts can write a description for each page's main photo, and the book reads it aloud to guests using a screen reader.
• Guests who set “reduce motion” on their device get a book with animation switched off.
• A book can be offered in twelve languages beside English, and the page reports the language it is rendered in so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
• There are no time limits, no auto-playing media, and nothing that flashes.

Honest limits

FreshLinen has not been through a formal third-party audit yet, and some content is written by hosts: a host can skip photo descriptions or paste text we cannot restructure. The editor nudges hosts toward accessible content, but we cannot guarantee every book. Where the platform itself falls short, that is on us, and we want to hear about it.
